Hello everyone! The website continues to look great! We visit it often to keep up with all of the "Millington News!"
Dave, Sorry to hear Mike goofed up on netting a nice sized walleye.
Gary Fick
Gary,
Thanks for the condolences (the fish was really nice).
I don't want Mike to feel badly, but I really wanted that fish.
Dave
Nice catch of walleyes for getting a late start. Sounds like it could have been even better if M.F.K. new how to handle a net. Well at least he got off his butt for a change and tried. Next time he can stay behind the wheel where he usually is and keep us on the fish.
Sam,
Yes, its too bad about that fish, I've always wanted to catch a fish that I
could hang on the wall.
I think that might have been THE WALLEYE.
Dave
Fish on!!! Hey Mike grab the net. Oh never mind, I remember what happened last time. Hey Dave, grab the net!
Joe,
Can you say: "Master Angler Award"!
Dave
Hey Dave, glad to see you guys caught some walleyes the other day. I'm looking forward to doing some trout fishing next week.
I hear Buck knocked one off at the net. Was it a big fish?
Nick,
You know, the more that I think about that fish...... I'd say a possible state
record.
Dave
The fishing trip on the bay father's day looks to be a successful one but from what I have read Mike must have mis-netted a big walleye.
Sammy,
Yup, we had a good day, but that one fish...........definitely a new state
record walleye.
I wonder what the world record is?
Dave
Skoie told me that Uncle Buck couldn't net a big fish for you. How big was it?
Josh,
I am absolutely convinced that it was a world record walleye. I feel bad
for Mike,
but it was a monster!
Click here for my recollection of that world record fish
that
got away.
Dave
Can't believe how talented my Godchild has become with the computer and creating a terrific website. Does he do any work anymore for Saginaw Township? (Just kidding.) That talent must come from me!!
I don't know about the talent, but the good
looks..........
D.K.
Both the talent and good looks come from Jeanette!!!!
I especially enjoy this site. All the fisherman look so serious and everyone else has great smiles!!!
Glen:
Thanks for visiting the site. You noticed those sourpuss faces too, eh?
Dave
Thank you so much for acknowledging me, Glen!!! Something good has to come from the only sister in this group!!
FYI - If any more football players get arrested, MSU will be up a creek this fall. I'm sure Michael would say they're always up a creek!! Go MSU!
DOES msu PLAY FOOTBALL? DIVISION 3?
ANOTHER QUESTION: WHY DOES SPARTY WEAR A SKIRT?
Michael - Your are toooooo funny! I'll have to find out why Sparty wears a skirt - a great warrior!
By the way, your cousin, Amy, is being inducted into the Alma Hall of Fame in October for winning the Division 3 National Championship in 1992. Can any other relatives claim the same????
Congratulations Amy! A well deserved honor.
And now, for the MSU vs. U of M thing, turn your speakers up and:

DK
Really enjoy this site. Keeps me in touch with my hometown and my friends. Thanks for doing it and fish on.
Ryan:
Thanks for visiting and the kind comments. The Silver Bullet guys really
enjoyed the tournament this past weekend. We'd
like to thank your family for the invite. If you have any pix from the
fishing tourney (or any other fishing pix)
that can be scanned, I'd love to put them on
the web site. I think this is a picture of your boat,
"The
"Fishing List" taken
the day of the tournament.
Dave
Mike: I have a possible answer why Sparty wears a skirt. Sparty wins the National Mascot contest almost every year. The muscular one won in the National contest in 2004-05. A skirt always helps a person look nice!!!!!
Glen:
We will have to wait for Mike's wisecrack reply relating to this mascot issue. In my opinion regarding mascots, MSU - 1 U of M - 0
Dave
erins wedding pics looked nice
Melissa,
Thanks for the comments, and thanks for attending. Hope things are going
well with you.
-Dave
All Michigan State fans are washing their Sparty skirts today with tears. It just doesn't seem right!!!!
Glen:
It was a tough loss for the Spartan fans.
However, it certainly was a great game.
I'm waiting for comments from Aunt J, Uncle F,. Josh. as well as Alex, Tim &
Nate. I think
we can expect something from Mike.

Dave

We've had a few more tears to shed since that U of M game! With the Spartans and the Lions, you just can't expect constant wins. Let's hope our basketball season will bring us great victories. I do hear that U of M's bball team will be a contender this year. Go Green!!!!!
Aunt J:
Don't give up on the Sparty football team yet, they could be playing for a
decent bowl. But do I get the basketball thing. Ol' Tom will extract
revenge on those nasty Wolverines.
DK

I have had the chance to make it out fishing a couple of times in the last few weeks. Andrea even went out once! I will try to send the pictures sometime this week.
Nick,
I heard you took my daughter fishing. Can't wait to see the proof in the
pictures.
Dave
COMMENTS ON THE MOVIE "THE THING"
JUST A TYPICAL SATURDAY NIGHT IN EAST LANSING, MUST HAVE MADE UNCLE FRANK, JOSH & GLEN HOMESICK FOR THEIR DAYS ON THE BANKS OF THE RED CEDAR.(DO NOT FALL IN YOU WILL NEED SHOTS)
DAVE- YOU COULD GET CREDIT FOR A 400 LEVEL COURSE AT MSU FOR THIS MOVIE.
GO MSU BEAT PENN STATE
Hi there Steve this is a neat sight you developed! Sam Licavoli told me about it! Keep up the good work! NICE FISH JOE DEMSKI!!! ZEKE
Thanks Jim, hope you enjoyed the site. Email pictures of those big bucks, eh?
Dave
Hi Dave, With 2005 coming to a close, has there been a winner declared for the Club Award (bad netting technique)?
Gary:
Thanks for reminding me, I almost forgot about the award. I'll have to consult with the other non-nominees (which is pretty much Joe and I) and take a vote. That hack job of Buck's was brutal, Sam's on the other hand was sort of.....well, it was Sam. I'll post the winner after the new year. Thanks again for the reminder.
Dave
I don't like to brag or anything, but don't most good teams play in the NCAA?? It seems to me that one of
the teams from our state has to play in the NIT. I love one of the placards at the MSU/U of M game that read, "Real men wear shirts and ties". I don't think I've ever seen Tommy wear a shirt. Go Green!!
Yes, there is certainly quite a difference between the NCAA and NIT tournaments. Sort of like major league baseball vs. little league. Go Green!
Dave
Glad to see I rank right up there with the best of them. However, I'm dead meat after Round 2. I had Ohio State winning it all! Oh well, our Big Ten sure fizzled!! By the way, Uncle Frank says to tell Mike that what we're doing is gambling!!!
Aunt J.:
Don't be too quick to count yourself out. I believe that no one is out of
it this year and the unusual just may happen (although picking Ohio State might
have been too pro-Big 10). BTW, I recall hearing that sermon myself.
Dave
Now, Now Aunt J, Uncle Frank needs to be reminded of a question Grandpa Kern asked the pastor about competing for money in bowling. He was told that it was a game of skill and therefore OK. This is a game of skill (of the mind) in calculating statistical information and analyzing evidence before coming to a logical conclusion. You know, much the same thing that an auditor would do on his job. Oh My, if it is gambling, then Uncle Frank must have had a career of it??!!?? :-) Steve
Well, if the pastor said its ok, then.......lets double the bets!

I must agree with Uncle Frank on this gambling issue. The man who taught us to gamble on euchre, as part of the Nuechterlein Hardware Bowling Team should know. This is unlike playing cribbage against Nick where the outcome is a certainty.
Mike:
Wasn't it just last year that a certain non-gambling Uncle provided both you and I with a document containing the rules of a card game; a game that involved beer and betting and that was best played in a tavern? And didn't he sort of insist that we take the time to learn this game?......I think it was called Skeen or something like that. Nah, it couldn't have been Uncle F., it must have been someone else.
DK
Dave, thanks for the vote of confidence, but if you still think I got a chance at winning the NCAA pool; well maybe you stood downwind a little too long during the demise of The Thing!
Joe,
Last year you flipped a coin, this year you rolled the dice.....maybe next year you should use a dog.
Dave
"I get no respect!" I can put myself into Mike's place for getting all kinds of misplaced criticism only because he didn't land a fish. Now the target has been changed to another 3rd sibling of his family. But, you know, Mike and I have both gotten used to such comments and consider the sources. Uncle Frank
Uncle F.:
On this web site harassment is the sincerest form of
love. Also, it was your turn (and notice above that your little sister
started it).
By the way, sharpen your hooks, Trout Camp is just around the corner.
Dave
Loved all the banter by my nephews and brother. He told me he wouldn't comment until fishing camp, but I see he got his dibs in!! Go Frank!! By the way, I think he forgets how we used to play penny ante with Mom, Dad, Peta, Tutti, Erna, and Hans. Those were the good old days!!
Go MSU Women!!
Hey, you started this whole thing!
DK
Hey, Dad! I am so sad that I am making such a poor showing in the basketball bracket! By the way, who is that hot, young man that I saw on the fishing "oldies but goodies" page? I love the pants! :)
Love you! AJ
AJ
I told you I used to be cool. You should have seen the shoes that I had! Sam said my hair weighed more than I did. Nasty, eh?
Dad

Georg & Effi:
Danke, wir werden bald sprechen.

Wir sind alle Gesund, und hoffen das euer familie ist also Gesund. Harry, Dave, und Ich wenschen alles gutes zu Effie and Sie. Harry, Dave, und Franz
Use a dog! What the heck would a dog know about picking teams? Nope, I'm leaning toward darts from 20 paces for next year.
Dave, I say, if ANYONE picked GMU to go this far, just give em the money and count the rest of us out!
Jack:
No one had Geo. Mason going this far, not even the George Mason coach!
BTW, don't look now, but you are in the lead.
DK
I miss you all so much. I can't wait to come home and see you again.....
Katy:
We miss you too, keep studying.
Dad
Dave: Just a matter of correcting some of the Kern History. Under "History of Our Kern Family In America, we have listed the following: 18 year old Peter - - -16 year old Johann W.
The correct ages of the above were as follows: 18 year old Johann W.- -16 year old Peter. Please make the change. Thanks Also want to let you know that an updated history has been submitted to Bavarian Lodge Kern Room, which brings the history up to date, while the original history will also be in the room, written by Wallace, Uncle Jim, and Norine Kern. I have also given some pictures to them to place in the room as well. When all is done, I will let you know. Another item: Wallace Kern showed me the grave of Johann W. in the St. Lorenz churchgrove. I wonder whether you would like to take a picture of it for your website? Let me know, and I can show you the grave. Followed Nick's running at Boston today. Seems he had a good run. Uncle Frank
Uncle F:
Will get'er done. Do you have a copy of the updated document? Think trout!
DK
Dave: As to the update of Kern History, I am waiting until Ray Bergdolt, at the Lodge, approves of my write up and pictures, after which time I will send you the history. O.K. You didn't answer as to whether you are interested in the grave stone, not yours, but Johann William's. For your information, we had a meeting of the Kern Reunion Committee and have two speakers scheduled for historical highlights. One is Ed Beyerlein who will talk about his grandfather John Kern and either Matt or Ron Kern regarding the history of Kern's Sausages. The date is August 13th and hope you and your family will be able to make it. Uncle
Uncle F:
Its about time that you begin work on the Bernthal's. Steve volunteered to assist with the family stuff, and I think the two of you will make outstanding collaborators.
DK

Are the Tigers for real? I know they have been playing some fairly bad teams, but they have have been playing good baseball. I am thinking about getting a dish so I can watch them on Fox Sports Detroit.

Nick:
They are much improved this year. Leyland is an outstanding manager and the change in play is apparent. The young pitching has matured, and the hitters seem to have a clue as to what's going on. The defense is better than previous years'. The Tigers are fun to watch to-date.
Will it hold up? I wouldn't order the dish until after 50 or so games, by then we will know it this team is for real. BTW, I've already ordered playoff tickets.
Dave
ok, so, apparently all the fisherman on this web site have a thing with BEING WHITE!!! The FISH look great, but my oh my
look at all the white sagging boobies on the fisherMEN!!
JB:
Yes those are certainly white boyz. Dan and Dave - nice catch of walleyes! Pictures Here
DK
Living in Louisiana for 28 years, brother to the Kern's Sausages brothers. Wanted to save the family history link. Thanks.
Mark:
Thanks for visiting the web site. Frank certainly
did a fine job of putting together a history and I've learned a great deal about
our forefathers and foremothers. Best wishes to you and your family in
Louisiana and please write again.
Dave

I finally got a chance to check out your site. How cool! I sure miss you guys and having our girls in sports. Those were the days! If only we could go back. Have a good summer.
Janet
Janet:
Thanks for the nice note. It was good seeing you again as RJ & I really enjoyed the wedding. By the way, tell that old (really old) Kraut husband of your's that he owes me a cup of coffee.
Dave
Thought I'd better check in with the family since we returned from Alaska. We had a great time, but only had good weather the first 3 days when we could see Mt. McKinley from Anchorage. We splurged and took a "small" bush plane up into the glaciers, way up into and above the mountains and then we landed on a beautiful lake on our way down. Landing on water is about the smoothest landing you can have. Alaska sure is a huge state and we only saw a small portion of it.
Aunt Jeanette, Glad to hear you are back safely, and had a great time. All is well here, and Dave, Mike, and Nick are about ready to go fishing in Montana. I can't wait to make that Alaskan trip myself some day. Steve
Hope you had a great time fishing out in Montana and that the girls had the same in New York!! Welcome back!
Just was looking at the Kern Family and wondered why Marjorie Ann Martha Kern German was not listed in the Pre-WWII generation?????
Aunt J:
Sorry for the delay with the answer, pretty hectic lately. I am happy that you had a wonderful Alaska vacation. From what I hear it is absolutely breathtaking. Can't wait to see the pictures. I will get your older brother working on the web correction.
DK
I am one of Nick's buddies from Kingston. Nice Montana pictures. Good luck with the new twins, my wife and I just had twin girls eight weeks ago. They are wonderful.
Lane:
Congratulations to your wife and you as I am sure those are two beautiful baby girls. We are most happy for the both of you as you are surely blessed (but I would suggest at least one more girl in the future to make life interesting). Nick told me you are now a proud Cardinal as well. It is great hearing from you and enjoy those babies.
Dave
I saw that you updated the page with pictures of your Montana picts. I think you should put up some pictures of our NYC trip as we brought home much more "kill" than you did! :)
Love you! AJ
Geez Andrea, for some reason I don't have enough money left to put those NY pics on the web site!
Love,
Dad
In the past few days I have called out a few guys for definite man-card violations. However, besides the few listed on the card, I have no list of offenses that would result in the removal of ones card? Is it possible to have the Silver Bullet team compile a complete list of unmanly actions and the penalties for such violations?
Complete list? Nah, A Man Card holder knows instinctively when a violation has occurred. No lists of violations are needed, just impose the penalty. Things like snuggly pillows and the like are clearly 1 hour card suspensions.
DK
Grandma and Grandpa: Congratulations to the new Grandparents from the Kern clan in Frankenmuth. Enjoy
Thanks.....can you see the smile from there?
Dave: I know you are busy, but I thought I would ask you to add Amy and Jim's new addition. He is James Charles Baker, listed below Payton in the History section. Danke
Uncle F:
Done, thanks for the reminder.........that was a fun update!
Dave
Congratulations on those twin boys!! I am certainly not old enough to have great-great nephews!! I love those "S" hats in the pictures on the website. Go Green!! I'm sure Uncle Mike "loved" them too.
Hope all is well with Erin and the new babies.
Well, Old Uncle Mike has to break open the wallet if he wants them to wear maize and blue, eh?
DK
I have a nice writeup on the Bernthal family. Dr. Wilmar Bernthal edited writeups from several sources. They are traced
back to Switzerland. I'm related to them too through my mother who was a Weber. The orginal Weber from Frankenmuth married Kuniganda Bernthal. If you give me your email address I will email it to you.
Also, I see that you got the attention Georg Beyerschmidt from Germany. I saw him & Effi in Germany in 1989 when he took my family around in Nuremburg and Rosstal.
Wally
Wally,
Thanks for the offer. I would love to have a copy of the write-up. I am trying to get Frank and brother Steve to work up some web stuff on
the Bernthal side, but everyone is busy.
Best wishes,
Dave
What a great idea! I loved seeing the boys and of Erin and Josh. Congratulations Grandma and Grandpa! Best wishes!
Thanks Cheryl. Its fun to be a grandpa.
Enjoyed seeing Dave and Jacob this weekend as well.
Dave
Hello from Wisconsin. The site is nice. I'll be getting into that Millington baseball material soon. Very interesting stuff. Take care.
Dave,
Nice of you to drop a note. We hope all is going well in the land of
cheese and Packers. The sports pages are certainly not the same since you
left. (the link to Dave's new newspaper is:

DK
great site.
John:
Thanks for checking in and leaving a message.
Dave
Thanks so much ,I have been trying to link up Edward[Eduard] W. Kern to all the Kern family that lived in Michigan.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you found what you were looking for.
Dave
It's been a long time since I've checked your Guest Book. Keep up the good work.
Never thought I would say this, Mike, but I hope Ohio State takes Florida to the cleaners, as U of M certainly should have played for the National Championship. Go Blue and beat USC!! They need to win a bowl game one of these years!! Who
knows, MSU might be up in those ranks one of these years. (Don't hold your breath!)
Aunt J:
We will see what happens shortly. Tough to pull for OSU, but maybe it will be a Big 10 year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and the Elbers family.
Dave
Herzlichst grüßen Euch Eure Freunde aus Old Germany
Effi und Georg
Effi und Georg:
Thank you so much for the very nice holiday note
from Germany. Your Michigan friends wish you a very Merry Christmas and
our prayers are with you and your family for the upcoming New Year.
At a gathering last night, dad (Harry) translated your
message to the entire family, and all were happy to hear from you. May
God's blessings be upon the Bayerschmidt family.
Dave

It was wonderful to see everyone over Christmas. We miss you so much! Dad, keep up the great work on the site. Can you update it with Christmas and baptism pictures? I guess I didn't take as many pictures as I thought I did. We love you all so much! Nick & AJ
Andrea:
It was wonderful to have the family together again. The Kern's were truly blessed in 2006. We will get the pics up soon.
Dad
My great, great grandfather was Johann Peter Kern. My maternal grandmother was his granddaughter, Marie Eva Kern Sohn. Thank you for your work in recording our family history. -Clawson, Michigan
Susan:
Thank you for dropping by and leaving a note. The family history work on this web site should be credited to Frank Kern of Frankenmuth as well as others who have contributed. Although the data on our site is certainly not extensive, its been fun and interesting learning experience for me. There are others (most notably Wallace Kern) that have compiled vast amounts of Kern genealogy data. Best wishes to you and your family, and maybe some day we will meet at the Kern Reunion in Frankenmuth.
Dave

Let the games begin (and they have). Lots of "L's" on my sheets. Actually did better than those suggested by Sports Illustrated so far. I think the Spartans will meet their Waterloo tonight.
The brackets arrived. Uncle C is ripping them
up. Go Spartans.
DK
Dave,
You missed your calling. Your website looks great!! Are you for hire?
So Becky, how much of a pay raise did you want this year?
DK
4th and last time to try to send a message!!!
I was proud of our Spartans effort against North Carolina. They just ran out of gas and don't have a deep enough bench and "long arms"1 Ibok was out with an injury.
My main reason for sending a message is I want to know if Michael (Buck) is going to apply for either of the U of M basketball coaching positions??? The radio show I listened to today said that U of M needs to start spending some real money on that program, not just think athletes want to come there because it is U of M!!
Ouch, that hurts.....
Ah yes, how long has it been since the Wolverines have sent an honest basketball
team to the NCAA's?
DK
On the U-M question. There are three answers. 1) Academics 2) Academics 3) Academics
P.S. Amy if you need help picking the correct teams next year please feel free to call. Mike
Amy, do you know this guy?
DK
hey guys i was just looking up under googel family tree kern and i found this. this is so cool im myself am german actually but we moved to the states a couple of years ago its so awesome to find something out about my past and idk its just kool :]
Sarah:
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a message. Say, you have a great last
name, eh?
Dave
I am from the PA Kern Family. It is very nice to se this site. My Grandmother was Mildred Kern (Maden: Kleppinger). Her son, my father is Robert Kern, and he had 4 boys and 2 girls. Thanks again for allowing this site to be viewed. I hope to visit again. SEK
Steven:
We also have a Steven Kern, my big brother. Thanks for visiting the site
and dropping a note. The Kern name is certainly nationwide. Best
wishes to you and all of the Pennsylvania Kern's.
Dave
KERN POOL 2007 Appears either Harry or Dave wins!!!! I don't think Die Katz will be able to endorse the check.

It seems that a certain CMU graduate is ahead of a certain U of M nephew!! (and, I don't mean Harry as the CMU graduate - we know he is ahead) However, I will be rooting for Florida tonight and my DIE KATZ could be the winner. Somehow, I will get her paws to work to endorse the check!! Don't worry, Uncle Frank, we will not be audited!! Sorry, Harry, I will root against OSU!!
I'm sure its a taxable event.
Thank you all!! Sorry to have to beat out my "older" brother (and my nephews and great-nieces and their spouses).
Congratulations from all.......we humbly bow and
concede to the 2007 Kern Pool Champion.
DK
This is for Steven E. Kern. Many years ago, a Billy Kern visited our family with someone (I can't remember who that was). He was from the Pittsburgh area. Is he a relative of yours?
I can't believe I haven't heard/seen any comments from the Lansing crew regarding Michigan State's national championship in the frozen four. Are they beginning to be sensitive to Mike's feelings?
National Championships and Final Fours in the winter sports are becoming commonplace at MSU, and being the compassionate, kind, salt of the earth types that we are, we don't want to rub it in.
We do wish to welcome to the Big 10 a basketball coach at Michigan that CAN win the NIT.
"On the Banks of the Red Cedar"!! Saw the latest comments and had to reply. Yes,MSU did win the National Championship in hockey!! They had a parade for them last evening which ended up with a reception at the Munn Ice Arena. We are battling colds, so we didn't attend. That team put it all together and beat some very good teams (I believe U of M was somewhere in there too!!) Let's hope the new football coach can put something together and we will once again have some win seasons!
I love your wedding pictures are very nice
I use to live in Millington,MI. I loved living there for 11 yrs. it was fun at my old school vassar jr. high school. Now I live in South Crolina and go to the school T.L. Hanna High School ever watch the movie (Radio) well the real radio at the end of the movie go to my school every day ever sence 1965 do the math so i love it in Mllington Michigan and look foward to coming back for a while so got to go to my next which is math talk to you some other time
Love Always, Matthew McCormick
Just a note: Tommy Amaker must be at a "real" school now that he is at Harvard! I noticed he wore a shirt and tie, which never happened at U of M! Our MSU students used to have signs that said, "Real men wear shirts and ties"!!
Out of curiosity is there any connection between your family and that of Johannes Conrad Kern, born Berlingen Thurgau, Switzerland 1808-1888?
This is as far back in my mothers family that I have been able to go.
God Bless.
I'm sorry Mark, but I am unable to link to those names (alas, I am certainly not the genealogist of the clan). Best of luck to you as you search the ancestors.
Dave
Wonderful history. I was looking for some connection, but didn't recognize any names. My grandfather (Julius Kern..married to Lucille Schmidt) died before I was born. My family is from Toledo and Perrysburg Ohio. I enjoyed your page...Thankyou! Todd M. Kern Orlando FL.
Todd, Thanks for dropping by. Good luck on your
search for your family's history. I am learning that there are numerous
branches of the "Kern" family tree (also a forest of trees).
Best wishes,
Dave
Lieber Harry!
MIKE AND JANE SAMDAL, EVELIA AND JEFF GLICK, THE AGUIRRE FAMILY ALL SAY : "CONGRATULATIONS"! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY YOU HAVE! "GOD BLESS THE KERN FAMILY" WE ENJOYED THE WEB SITE.
Mike, Jane, Evelia & Jeff,
Thanks for visiting. It was great seeing everyone this past weekend.
God Bless,
Dave
I figured I should drop a quick line to say hello all the way from Cheltenham, UK. I have been in the schools the last few days, but will be fishing next Thursday in Newbury, UK. I have sampled several different English beers and visited many pubs. We are having a great time. -Nick
We know that you are studying very hard. But somehow, we also knew that fishing would come into play on this trip. Make Izaak Walton proud; and take some pictures.
Dave
Came back across your site (vain attempt to see who's saying dirty things about me - or is it that I'm the one with the vanity?). The comments have been fun to read. Glad to see all is well.
Dave:
Thanks for dropping a note. I hope all is well with your family and you. I was just thinking, as soon as you left, the Tigers became a good team. Nah, no connection.
Dave still keeps in touch with Thumb sports and
writes a Thumb area sports blog at:
http://www.thumbsports.blogspot.com/ . I suggest you bookmark it, as
its a good read.
Dave
I should be visiting more often. Jeanette really knows her basketball. It's a beautiful site. The pictures are fantastic. I will be back sooner rather than later.
Glen:
Its good to hear from you again. Yes, Jeanette knows basketball, and skinned everyone this year. In fact, all of the Elbers clan did well. If you are interested, we love to have you in the pool next year. Keep in touch and send your email address to me.
Dave
Will the Tigers ever win again? I wonder if I loan my lucky fishing shirt to Jim Leyland if they could turn things around.
Nick:
Well, its not looking very good for the Tigers right now. But they are
playing with half of their roster, and part of Toledo's. Once they get
healthy, look out. Yup, from the looks of those trout this year, Jim
Leyland could use that lucky shirt!
Dave
My mother's maiden name is Poole. Her great Grandmother is Sabina Kern, but I am not sure it is the same one. We have one picture of Sabina and John Kern (my mother has it). Sabina's daugther married a man named "Poole." Do you have a record of Sabina's descendents?
Karen:
Do you have any family links to the Frankenmuth area? Include your email address, and I'll pass the question along to someone who may have some info.
Dave
Buck,
Don't feel bad about the lose today. I heard Appalachian State has a pretty good squad this year. Maybe they will have better luck against Oregon next week.
I just received our Alumni Newsletter from SVSU. It seems there has been considerable talk about adding Michigan to SVSU's schedule. Considering Michigan's record against 1 AA teams, I think it would be a smart move.
Well, of course I couldn't let the day pass without some comment! Did anyone ever hear of Appalachian State???? Lisa suggested I send a comment, but I told her it may come back to bite me. Oh well, I have broad shoulders. Appalachian State! Wow!!
Ah Yes, I have to add my comment too about the Michigan loss to Appalachian State High School. I watched the replay of the 4th quarter last night. It is not like Michigan did not have multiple chances to win that game. If they are the Champions and the Best, they need to be able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Mr. Michigan (Jimmy Bickel) is already calling for a coaching change. Seems he did that for his beloved Frankenmuth Eagles too. Oh well, I hope Michigan wins all but one of the rest of their games this year. You probably know which one I want them to lose. Go Green!!!!

Could it be possible that Appalachian State played a team made up entirely of students from the U of M FLINT campus's intramural Flag Football league? If so, our condolences go out to Buck's Alma Mater. It was a tough loss.
Ah yes, Payback.
WOW....39-7. Can it get any worse for the wolverines????
Josh:
Thank goodness they have Notre Dame on the schedule, eh?
Dave
Hail to the Victors!! Guess Lloyd can keep his job for another week, don't know about Charlie Weiss!
Now it's Sparty's turn......Go Green, Beat Notre Dame!
Just a comment about AJ's comment. funny thing is that Apppp-a-something-state did. in fact. play U of M FLINT's 2nd string of the flag football team (with 7 of those participants being freshmen women). Our first string was sad that they couldn't make the game, but due to some pinky sprains and chronic bloody noses they were not even able to be water boys. (I know this because the captain is in one of my classes this fall.) BUT good thing we were able to upgrade from our flag team that week to our two hand touch team for the Notre Dame game... As for the state game..... There are not many concerns...... rumors i have heard lately are that we will be saving ALL football teams and bringing out a mixture of Ann Arbor and Flint badminton teams.. but like I said.... just rumors. Oh, and Nick... SVSU... well you guys might wanna try to start competing with GVSU before you start to think of attempting to take a shot at U of M.....
I love you all... and hopefully I will be checking in much more often! -Kate
OH! and it was good to see a few of the fam today!!!!!!
Of course it was at an undisclosed location :)

Yes, Katy - we will certainly not tell where we saw each other. By the way, it was great to see you!!

Hey, Mike! Whatever would your team do without Mike Hart? A local radio personality will have nothing to do with his U of M until they get rid of "Floyd" (as he calls him.)
The question is: Will Lloyd retire after this year? He is a darn good coach.
Dave
Hope all is well in MI. Unfortunatly, unlike my brother-in-law I wont have time to do any fishing while away from home. Plus I haven't seen any rivers in Toluca, Mexico. Hasta Luego p.s. man there were a lot of upsets this week in college football. Including Michigan over Northwestern.
Josh:
Hope things are going well. Regarding the fishing, you are in for a treat next year, we had fun (pictures here). Hurry and finish the job and come home safely.
Dave

Steve and Mary You must be very proud of your family. We are very happy just to say we know them. Take care from Lochlomond Camp and great site.
Larry & Deb:
Thanks for stopping by and dropping a note. Although we've never had the opportunity to meet, I've heard repeatedly that the hospitality at Lochlomand Camp is the best!
Dave
Hi!
I am a Kern relative living in California. My son, Christopher John Arns, found your web site. My mother was June Eleanor Kolfage, daughter of Josephine Unger and John Gerald Kolfage. My mother's sister was Joyce Kolfage of Long Beach, California. My mother and aunt came to California from Detroit with their mother (Josephine) after their father died. I believe Josephine's mother was Lizzie Kern.
I have two brothers and a sister: Robert Wayne, Brian Ward, and Rosanna Jo (named after Josephine). We were all born on the island of Cyprus, where my parents moved in 1953. My mother was married to Lewis W. Moore, of Long Beach - previously from Boundbrook, New Jersey. Mom (June) passed away in Reno, Nevada in June 2003.
I currently live in a suburb of Sacramento, California. I have two children: Christopher and Laura Arns. My mother's cousin, Robert Unger, lives in Stockton, just south of here with his wife, Roberta. I believe Bob's father was George, brother to Josephine.
As a matter of note, my siblings and I have been to Frankenmuth several times as children and young adults. My brother, Brian, and I visited with Jim and Vera Kern for Thanksgiving in 1973 while I was attending chiropractic college in Davenport, Iowa. I can remember a great chicken dinner at Zehnders with Frieda, Walter, and the rest of the immediate family when I was a teenager.
Thanks for creating a great family site. I enjoyed reading the history.
Lisa:
Thanks so much for dropping by and leaving a note.
Its amazing how one family that immigrated in 1852 and 1861 has grown to the
many descendents today. Its also remarkable that the "immigration"
continues to the many parts of the country, or as is the case with your family,
the globe.
Although I'm not a "family genealogy expert", (Wallace Kern has documented
the Kern history) I do enjoy reading the stories of the "cousins" and
I'd like to thank you for your message and for sharing the story. Frank Kern
(brother of Jim above) assembled the data for these family web pages as a
favor for our immediate family, which I for one, really appreciate.
Best wishes from Frankenmuth (and Millington)....remember, this little corner of the world is still part of your roots.
Dave Kern
Thanks for putting up the boys' Christmas card! Neat link.
Thanks for giving me the link: http://www.photobiz.com/slideshowbiz/slideshow.cfm?slideshowID=10537&photographerID=2537. They are outstanding pictures. Get me the files soon.
Dave
Well, I see Tommy Amacher is still responsible for the Michigan Wolverine Basketball team losing.

Ooooohhh, Steve hit the nail on the head!!!! Go Spartans!!!
We hear congrats are in order for Josh, Skoie, and the big brother twins!! Hope all is well with everyone! Happy Holidays!!!
Thanks Nicole. We are excited too. Also, a very Merry Christmas to Dom and you from all of the Kern's
Son of Ronald Frederick Kern. I have enj
I am the grandson of Emma Kern and my granddad whose name escapes me at the moment since I was only 5 when he passed. My grandmom resided in Jackson, MI. When I get some more details I will write you. In the meanwhile, if there is any information you may have with this limited data, please write me. Thanks.
Hey Aunt Jeanette: FIRE UP CHIPS !!! Chips beat the Michigan Wolverines in Basketball in Crisler Arena 12-15-07. Lead most of the game. Tommy Amacher not in sight. I only wish the Chips were playing Michigan in the Motor City Bowl.

Fire Up Chips is right!! Everyone down here is amazed the CMU whipped U of M! What is this Congratulations note in the previous message? Are Erin and Josh expecting again?? No one tells us anything!!
Now, If the Chips can defeat Purdue in the Motor
City Bowl, it will be a great December for all of the alumni.
Yes, Erin and Josh are expecting in June. And only one this time.
You should talk to your brother about passing the news along.
Congratulations to the Chippewas and the Spartans for coming to their Bowl game ready to play and not roll over and die as had been predicted by the pundits. While they did not win, they made a valient effort and made us proud. We only hope that the Maize and Blue can do as well when it is their turn. Good luck to them.
My hat's off to U of M and their bowl victory. Mike - believe it or not, I did cheer for them. I decided it was time Lloyd Carr won a bowl game. A little too much trash talking in the game for me, but it came from both sides. Happy New Year to all my Kern relatives! By the way, Dave, that is a nice picture of your family on the Home Page. Girls all look different - straight hair, curly hair, brown hair, blonde hair!!
One thing is obvious....the good looks don't come
from me.
-DK
I beg to differ with you!! (Godmother's prejudice)
Hi Dad! I think we need to get a quick poll going for the changing of the Nick's names. We are in dire need of getting one of them a "Nick-Name". (All puns intended)
Good idea Katy, when I get a chance I'll do it on the Old Millington Guys. We will have a Name the Nick contest.
The chant at Breslin today was, "Little Sister", "Little Sister". That must have had something to do with Hart's statement about playing "Little Brother" in football!!! Way to go MSU - defeated a U of M team that didn't look too good!!! Go Green Go White!!
Yes, Michigan's basketball team is pathetic. That Spartan student cheering section can be brutal, but funny too. And we all know how they feel about the Wolverines. I must be a front runner as I'm sort of a Michigan football fan (even though I also watch and pull for Sparty), but I'm a State basketball fan, primarily because I love to watch an Izzo coached team.
-Dave
Let's stop the "Little Sisters" comments. We all know what kind of mental stigma can be placed on a person being call a "little sister". How it can cause irrational thought, inferiority complex and couch burning. PS. Dad (Harry) wants to say Hi to his little sister Jeanette. Remember: Sparty is the one who wears a skirt.
Now its your turn, Aunt J............
Too funny!! At least Sparty has something to cheer about at this time of the year, skirt and all!!! Sparty is a fierce warrior!!! Hi to my big brother!! John Haubenstricker said he saw him at the funeral a few weeks ago. I want to know how John knows the family of the berieved. Tell Harry to answer that one for Little Sister!!!(no pun intended)
Jeanette gave me your webpage address. Pretty cool
Tim: Thanks for dropping in and leaving a note. By the way, your sister-in-law tends to stir the pot here on occasion...bashing the Wolverines is her favorite ploy.
Dave
And it is soooo much fun, isn't it Aunt J!! :-) By the way, latest reports on MLive say that MSU is winning the recruiting war in the southeast area of Michigan. Going after and getting top ranked recruits. Apparently the controversies at the U so Blue are having an effect on recruits decisions.
Is there going to be another Kern Pool?? For some reason U of M doesn't see fit to recruit down in Detroit. Is it beneath them?? Uncle Chuck just read that in revamping the Big House, for every handicap seat, they are losing 13 normal seats. So, you know, those seats were really scrunched together!! Let's hope our Spartans do well in the upcoming Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments!! If they only could play every game like they did against Indiana at the Breslin. Our East Lansing Trojans meet Saginaw High on Friday at the Breslin. I think our boys may have met their Waterloo!! I've been to 3 of their tournament games so far, and 2 of them have been nail biters!! Go E.L., beat Saginaw!! Too bad Frankenmuth lost to Menominee!!
Yes, we plan on a 2008 Kern Pool. And all past winners are required to participate. Sort of thought that we might do a computer pool, but decided that we will continue as in the past. I'll correct papers (it allows me to appreciate the plight of the family's teachers). Let everyone know its $2/no holla. Postmarked by the first game.
Go Sparty!
Thank you, Super Dave for inviting me to participate in your pool. It really helps keep an interest in all of the tournament games. Friendly, Chuck
You are welcome Chuck, the pleasure is ours. Besides, its another two bucks for the winner.
-Dave
Hi! I've enjoyed spending time on your web site. I, like I'm sure many, came across your site doing family research. Marie Kundinger, Daughter of Johann William is my link into the Kern family. I was very pleased to come across the photo that's posted of Marie and her 3 sisters. Would you happen to know what date she was born and when she passed away? Looking over the ships manifest of 1861 posted, I note that there is one other Ann Maria Kern daughter on board, Maria, 4 years old, and no mention is made of her elsewhere. Can you share anything on her? We hope to be up your way soon. ---Thanks
Is it possible that Andrea could hold out and win this thing? I cannot believe that with all of my superior basketball knowledge I am almost last and my lovely bride is in first.
As I see it, Memphis blew it last night!! If they had fouled when Kansas was coming down the court, it would have been 2 rather than 3 to tie it. Congratulations to all that did so well in the pool. Wait until next year, Die Katz will come back!!!
Yes, I expected a bit more out of Katz after last year's performance. It was fun playing again this year, and better luck next year.
DK
I have a pic. of the 1912 Millington baseball team. And according to a plaque I have it says they were the state champs that year. Do you know anything about this team? Or any names. The plaque belonged to the captain and 1st baseman last name Richardson. He is the grt grandfather to a friend of mine. My e-mail is michsportsfan2000@yahoo.com
Larry:
Thanks for leaving the note. Regarding the 1912 Millington baseball
team, I have very limited knowledge. A friend, also named Larry,
grandfather played on that team. It has been said that this team
played an exhibition game against the Detroit Tigers as well. I have
no idea what state championship they won (most likely an amateur association
of some type). Is it possible to get a scanned copy of that photo?
I and a few other Millington folks would appreciate a copy. (
