Information of Johann Kern
Family
The 1870 census (July of
1870) of Saginaw
County lists Johann W. Kern and children. Johann's wife, Sabina,
had passed away just two months prior to this census canvass. The census estimated that Johann's real estate was valued at $2,000 and his personal property was
valued at $400 The vital information of Johann W. and family is as

Johann owned 80 acres in the
East 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of Section 23 of Frankenmuth Township on Frank
Road.

1870 Census Information
of Maria Winkler Kern
Johann's mother, Maria Winkler Kern, was also
included in the Frankenmuth Township 1870 census. Maria's
occupation was listed as a housekeeper on this document. The
census indicates that Maria was a resident
at the George L. & Anna M. Meyer home (both were 77 years old in
1870). The Meyer's owned 12 acres and the house was located at the
Northeast corner of Frank and Junction Roads.
It is unclear if Maria was the Meyer's housekeeper
at this time, as it is known that Maria, at one time, kept house for
Rev. Bernthal of St. Michaels Church in Richville.
Maria is buried in the St.
Michael's Cemetery in Richville - the year of death is 1887. This record indicates that
Maria owned no real estate. The vital census data for Maria is as

The 1880 census indicates
the Maria (Mary) Kern, now 71, was residing with her daughter
Ursula (Sally) and son-in-law Leonard Schnell at their Denmark Township
farm.
